15 years of service, rain or shine

A FEW showers might have changed the venue of the lunch, but nothing could dampen the sense of celebration at Christ Church Downend on June 4th as we marked 15 years since Jo and Shahne Vickery came to the parish. Jo was licensed as Vicar on May 16, 2002 but the 15-year party was set to coincide with Pentecost, the Christian festival celebrating the birth of the Church worldwide.
Jo and Shahne felt a call to serve the parish of Downend, swapping the Welsh town of Crickhowell for this city suburb. Since then many will have seen Jo in action through baptisms, weddings, funerals, school assemblies, carol services and Sunday services, but most will not have seen the hours of prayer, visiting, planning and dedication behind the scenes. At the service to mark the occasion, Jo spoke of ways the Spirit has been at work among the people here, and what a privilege it has been to share in the joys and sorrows of life among the people of Downend. As the Church marks Pentecost, there is much to celebrate locally.
