RAIL enthusiast Alan Bowden and his wife Linda marked their ruby wedding anniversary with a trip on the Avon Valley Railway.
The couple, from Downend, invited 40 guests to join them for a fish ‘n’ chip supper at the Bitton railway.
Their daughter Anna came home from America for the 40th anniversary event last month, which was followed three days later by her brother David’s wedding to Amanda.
Their elder Stephen with the couple’s grandson Aelfred came from Aberdeen to join the family festivities.
Alan and Linda were married on July 28, 1973 at Kensington Baptist Church in Stapleton Road.
Mr Bowden, a retired teacher, and his wife, a retired nurse, said: “We thought the train journey would be a different way of celebrating.”
Their secret for a long and happy marriage? “We would both say sharing God’s love and forgiveness every day.”
The Fish ‘n’Chips Service is one of three Meals on Rails special services offered by Avon Valley Railway this summer.
It runs again on Wednesday, August 7. A Curry Evening Service runs on Wednesday, August 14, and a Pie 'n' Pint Meal Service on Wednesday, July 31, and Wednesday, August 21.
Trains will leave Bitton station at 7.15pm each night. There will be a bar on board and tickets, including round trip and meal, cost £15 for an adult and £10 for a child.
Advance booking for the services is essential on 0117 932 5538 or by filling out a booking form available from Avon Valley Railway and returning it to the booking office.
