'All we want is some land somewhere'
Published on: 24 Nov 2016
A GROUP of parents and carers are searching for a plot of land in South Gloucestershire to ensure their children who have with special needs are able to live independently in the community.
The group, called Right Choice Right Life, is looking to form a housing project to create 10 single bedroomed apartments with communal space to help the young people socialise to combat loneliness and isolation.
Spokeswoman Penny Cutbill said: "We have cared for our young people for over 20 years and many are now at local and residential colleges learning life and basic vocational skills so they can live independently in their community.
"As parents are carers we believe passionately that our young people have the right to choose where and who they live with for the rest of their lives rather than being 'placed' in inappropriate accommodation with people they don't know."
The group's immediate aim is to find a plot of land in or around South Gloucestershire around 0.5-1 acre in size, with good access to a community, services and transport.
