Another chance to see the Lashings in action

FANS will have a second chance to see cricket legend Gordon Greenidge in action when The Lashings All Stars visit Mangotsfield this month.
The West Indies batsman, who scored 37,000 runs and 92 centuries in his career, played against Downend Cricket Club in June, when the home side was narrowly defeated by 25 runs as The Lashings made their fourth visit to the WG Grace Memorial Ground.
The Lashings squad on that occasion was captained by Phil DeFreitas led as captain.and included Herschelle Gibbs, Ian Harvey, Wasim Jaffer, Chris Schofield, Corey Collymore, Saqlain Mushtaq, Martin Bicknall, Devon Malcolm, Mark Alleyne, Ed Giddins and Michael Carberry.
Lashings hit 253 for 6 and Downend 228 for 10.
Each season, the Lashings World Tour visits clubs across the country to promote cricket and support local organisations.
On July 3, they will line up at Pomphrey Hill against a Mangotsfield Junior Football Club Invitation XI.
Former England spin bowler Graeme Swann, who retired after last winter’s Ashes defeat, is in the squad for the match, which it is hoped will help raise about £10,000 for the football club, which next season will be running around 40 boys and girls sides from under-5s through to under-16s.
The Mangotsfield team will be captained by Frenchay’s Mike Donaldson.
The day is also set to feature children from local schools playing Kwik Cricket – an introductory version of the game – on the outfield before the main event which starts at 2.30pm.
Admission is free.
