NOT content with filling the village centre with glorious flowers, the Downend in Bloom group has now added an artwork too.
The voluntary group commissioned the piece on the roundabout from renowned sculptor Jenny Pickford and it was launched at a lively ceremony on June 16,
The event was sponsored by Kustom Flooring and Furniture, which provided refreshments and entertainment, including a visit from Belle, of Beauty and the Beast.
The artwork was unveiled by Janet Biggin, chairwoman of Downend and Bromley Heath Parish Coouncil.
“The roundabout renovation forms part of the In Bloom group’s ongoing High Street proposals to work with the community through imaginative planting & lighting schemes,” she said.
Councillor Biggin praised the hard work of the volunteers from the In Bloom group, and said their work had drawn many well-deserved compliments.
Other sponsors of the scheme are: Plant Shrubs & Thanes Valley Flint, Airbus & Bristol Post Community Awards scheme.
The landscape design and planting at the roundabout was carried out by staff from South Glos Council Street Care, under the National Vocational Qualifications scheme.
