Awesome teachers win awards

TEACHERS Rachel Harris and Yann Deplechin have won awards for being awesome in the eyes of the toughest judges - their students.
Miss Harris, who teaches at Christ Church Junior School in Downend, was chosen after being nominated by 10-year-old Zoe Tanner.
Zoe said: “I nominated Miss Harris as she has helped me improve so much in maths and she runs our girls football team - I think she is really inspiring.”
On receiving the Awesome Teacher award from Kip McGrath Education Centres, Miss Harris said: “As a teacher, your goal is always to inspire and motivate pupils and it is lovely to think that one child has been so inspired that she has put me forward for this award. I’m really chuffed and extremely appreciative that Zoe nominated me, it really means a lot.”
The secondary school winning entry came from Josh Donovan, 12, of Mangotsfield School. He said of Mr Deplechin: “I think my teacher is awesome because he inspires me to be the best of my ability. I respect him!”
The competition, organised to mark the opening of the Bristol North Education Centre in Downend, was judged by owners of Kip McGrath centres across the South West.
Jay Grocott, owner of the Downend centre, which provides after-school tuition in English and maths for students between the ages of 6-16, said there were many great entries which expressed the importance to children of having teachers who are caring, inspirational, patient, positive, fun, engaging and motivating.
