Beechmere Belles celebrate Queen's landmark date with community tree planting

Published on: 01 Jul 2016

BEECHMERE Belles WI were keen to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday with the planting of a tree for the community. The WI group felt that a tree would be an enduring symbol of the monarch The tree, a conference pear tree, will blossom in winter and bear fruit. – a hard working tree for our hard working Queen.
Beechmere Belles worked with the Friends of Emersons Green Park so the tree could be planted in the Community Orchard. The orchard is planted on 'forest garden' principles, so that everything works together to encourage fruitfulness and the character of this natural and wilder side of the park is maintained.
A small team of people work on the site for two hours once a month, details on the Friends of Emersons Green Park website. The Friends welcome more workers.'
Beechmere Belles will continue to celebrate with a summer picnic at their June meeting. For more information, please visit their Facebook page: Emersons Green WI Beechmere Belles or email us
