Big Friendly Read begins next month

Published on: 28 May 2016

THE Big Friendly Read, Summer Reading Challenge 2016, begins in all South Gloucestershire Libraries on July 16 and runs until September 10.  It’s fun, it’s friendly and best of all, it’s free.
All children have to do is read six library books over the summer, collecting special Big Friendly Read collector cards  from some of Roald Dahl’s best-loved stories along the way, to get their medal and certificate.
More than 6,700 children took part in Record Breakers last summer.  A parent of children who did said:  “My three children loved the reading challenge. I think it is a fantastic idea and gets kids reading through the summer.”
Libraries, including Emersons Green, Downend and Staple Hill,  are also holding free activities throughout the holiday to help children complete the challenge. Visit your local library or log on to www.southglos.gov.uk/libraries to find out more
