Big spring clean start

Published on: 03 Mar 2014

INDIVIDUALS and groups will this month be sprucing up their neighbourhoods by taking part in South Gloucestershire’s Big Spring Clean campaign.

It runs from March 1 until April 30 and enable volunteers to take part in a campaign to improve the environment.

Last year 64 groups took part, with 2,000 volunteers collecting 400 bags of rubbish to improve the local environment.

Councillor Claire Young, chairwoman of the communities committee, said: “For several years the Big Spring Clean has helped bring local communities together to tidy up their local areas. It’s the perfect opportunity to venture down to your local green space, woodland or river and help improve its appearance while enjoying some fresh air. ”

The registration date for the Big Spring Clean has passed, but the council is keen to encourage volunteer litter-picking events at any time of the year.
