Big thank you to everyone from the foodbank

ORGANISERS of the Downend and Mangotsfield foodbank at Resound have thanked residents for their support throughout 2014.
Co-ordinator Claire Collins said churches, schools and individuals had kept up donations, while gifts from harvest festivals had been “incredible”.
One highlight was a collection at Sainsbury’s Emersons Green on November 28, when 765kg of supplies were gathered - enough to feed 85 families for three months. Students from Downend School joined other volunteers for the collection.
Special efforts were made to ensure recipients of handouts from the Trussell Trust foodbank received extra goodies for Christmas.
The special parcels contained Christmas crackers and some people leaving the building were heard to comment how excited they were because they had never had crackers before.
Local hairdresser Rachel gave some visitors Christmas haircuts, which were also much appreciated.
“We are so grateful for the faithful help and generosity of our supporters. Without them, these people really would go hungry,” said Claire.
Most of the food donated to the Resound foodbank is stored at Yate, but the building is having emergency repairs to its roof so Claire has asked donors to hold on to their supplies for a few weeks if possible.
