A STUDENT from Mangotsfield School competed for Great Britain at judo in a competition in Belgium.

The contest, known as the Ippon Trophy, involved people from Belgium, Germany, Netherland, Lithuania, and Great Britain.

Brooke Hamblin, 15, a member of the British Judo Council squad, was in a weight group of 30 girls aged 15 to 18 at the event in Antwerp.

She lost her first two fights, against gold and silver medallists, won her third fight after just 30 seconds and lost the fourth after a long fight.

Brooke said: “The competition was used  as an Olympic selection for the Belgian girls. Out of the whole squad we only had two gold medals which shows how advanced the competition was.
