Centenary baton at Bromley Heath WI
Published on: 31 Mar 2015
BRITAIN’S biggest WI made history again last month by taking part in the movement’s centenary celebrations.
A baton, which has been going round the country since the beginning of last year, was brought to Bromley Heath WI by Avon federation chairman Donna Butcher.
It was proudly mounted on a floral display by Victoria Veasey of Sweet Lavender Blue for photographs.
The baton will finish its journey at the WI annual meeting at the Albert Hall in June. Each area that is visited is invited to provide digital photos to be stored within the baton for future members to see.
Bromley Heath WI, which hit the headlines when it formed in 2013, held a lunch to mark the 100th anniversary.
Jane Bleaken-Ball wrote and performed – assisted by members - a poem entitled “Women & Their institute Inspiring 100 Years”.
There were also demonstrations from Tin Can Floral (Adele Brown), Little Monster Cakes (Emma Richards) and an inspiring talk by Marian Humphreys.
