Coaching priority continues at tennis centre

Downend & Fishponds LTC’s new and improved coaching, which is designed to ensure the quality remains at a high standard and an affordable price, has continued after a busy summer of tennis fun day for U5s - U12s, junior coaching for U6s - U18s, adult coaching and cardio tennis and competitions.

The 2013-2014 adult and junior leagues were very successful with D&F adults winning three leagues over the past year: the mixed summer league, winter league and summer league. Juniors won the U9s winter & Aegon team tennis leagues.

Individual achievements at the club saw Maria Budin winning the doubles Young Champions Cup in Belgium, Sean Helstrip winning the Powder Byrne U9s competitionsin Coombe Dingle and Ben Brown the U9s Minchinhampton. George King came second at Almondbury’s U9s July competition.

D&F hosted an exhibition tennis match which saw the three coaches plus one other player dress up and play a double match at the club annual BBQ, where lots of members watched and enjoyed the day.

Downend & Fishponds LTC has also had the go-ahead - to build four new floodlit tennis courts at the site of Frenchay Cricket Club and has secured funding from various sources. Building work should begin in November for the club to open in the new year.
