THIS is a good time for people in the Downend area to make a difference by supporting Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Sainsbury’s in Emersons Green has announced it is backing the charity for the entire year and the local fundraising group has put out a call for new members.

Volunteers from Downend, Emersons Green, Mangotsfield and Fishponds got together last year to start organising events and activities to boost the profile of the charity in the area and raise funds for Marie Curie nurses living and working in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

Marie Curie community fundraiser Natalie Garland said there were many benefits to joining a local group such as meeting new people, getting involved in your community, sharing new experiences and having fun.

For further information, contact Natalie on 01179 247 275 or email natalie.garland@mariecurie.org.uk.

Sainsbury’s has chosen Marie Curie Cancer Care following votes from customers and staff.

Tracy Cannard, from the store, said: “We are looking forward to making a positive difference to Marie Curie Cancer Care. Sainsbury’s stores are at the very heart of the communities we serve. It is vital that we make a positive difference and be a good neighbour.”
