PEOPLE in the Downend area will be going to the polls twice in five weeks.

Votes will be cast in the Metro Mayor election on May 4 and then in the general election on June 9.

Six candidates are vying to be the first to lead the West of England Combined Authority for the next four years. They are Tim Bowles, Conservative; Aaron Foot, UKIP; Darren Hall, Green Party; Lesley Mansell, Labour; John Savage, Independent; Stephen Williams, Liberal Democrat.

The general election called by Theresa May will be fought on the same constituency boundaries as in 2015. Tory Chris Skidmore has already said he will defend his Kingswood seat. Full details of all candidates will be in the June Voice.
