Downend Mothers’ Union Day Trip to Salisbury and Larmer Tree Gardens

Published on: 07 Sep 2015

We had a lovely day for our summer outing to Salisbury and the Larmer Tree Gardens. Members could choose to visit the Cathedral and view the Magna Carta, Mompesson House ( NT) , Edward Heath's residence, or stroll along the river.
Our branch meets on the first Wednesday of the month in the Parish Hall, North Street at 2.15pm.
The Mothers' Union is a worldwide Christian organisation that promotes marriage and family life. Anybody can join (female or male, married or single) provided they have been baptised and support its aims and objects. Our speakers cover a wide variety of topics. We have open days, social events and an annual summer outing.
Our branch generously supports the MU Overseas and Relief funds and the Literacy and Numeracy Development programme.  Nearer to home we support day trips for families under stress,  we help to befriend parents of sick children receiving treatment at Bristol Children's Hospital,  and we provide food and toiletries for those in need. Some knit garments for the needy in this country and abroad. We raise money for disasters, help a teenage Parents Project in Hartcliffe and Withywood and provide welcomers at Bristol Cathedral one day a month.
We will be delighted to welcome any new members. Our next meeting is on September 2, when the speaker will be Julia Lettey.
