Downend nurseries win praise

TWO nurseries in Downend have been awarded ‘Good’ ratings after being inspected by education governing body Ofsted.

The Mama Bear’s Baby and Toddler Unit in Coronation Road and its sister setting the Mama Bear’s Pre-School in Downend Road both passed the inspection with flying colours.

Inspectors commenting on the Baby and Toddler Unit said children at the setting are “extremely happy” and their individual needs are “exceptionally well met” with staff providing a “very warm and welcoming environment” for children and their families.

Inspectors also praised the well-established key-person system which they say means babies and young children immediately form secure attachments with staff.

During the visit inspectors observed babies and children in their individual rooms and outside environment throughout their daily routine, looked at children’s assessment records and systems for monitoring child development and took the views of parents and carers into consideration.

Bev Driffield, who owns the nursery group along with husband Tony, said: “We are thrilled with the results of our latest Ofsted report for our Downend Baby and Toddler Unit and we’re pleased that our two settings in Downend are of a ‘Good’ rating. It’s great to know that all the work we put into the settings is paying off.

“I was pleased to see that the inspectors praised the manager and staff team for showing a real drive and dedication for improvement through their self-evaluation process. This shows the procedures we put in place across all of our nurseries prove really effective and we’ll continue working on them until we reach the outstanding category.”

Mama Bear’s Day Nursery is a family-run childcare organisation which was established in 2002.
