Downend prepares for Chrismas lights switch-on
Published on: 31 Oct 2014
A SURPRISE guest is promised for the switch-on of the Downend Christmas Lights at the end of this month.
Downend & Bromley Heath Parish Council has once again organised a programme of activities in the village centre for the event on Friday November 28.
Downend Business Community is supporting the event, with many shops and businesses staying open late for the occasion. DBC is also organising a treasure hunt.
The fun begins at 4pm, when Father Christmas is due to arrive at The Horseshoe. The tree lights will be switched on at 6.30pm.
Musical entertainment will be provided by singers from three local primary schools as well as the Cleeve Singers and Ange Hardy, from Downend Folk Club. Cheerleaders and the Red X Dancers will also perform.
The Happy PlayBus will be there, and mince pies are on offer for all.
From 2.30-8.30pm, Westerleigh Road will be closed at the Horseshoe junction, down to Buckingham Place, with diversion signs in operation via North Street, Salisbury Road and Buckingham Place.
The parking spaces in Downend Road (outside the banks) will be suspended – but the bus stop will remain in use.
