DOWNEND School is again celebrating record GCSE results, with a further improvement in the proportion of students achieving five or more A*-C passes including English and maths.
Fifty seven per cent of students reached the national benchmark this summer, representing a dramatic increase of 14 percentage points over the last two years.
Eighteen students gained eight or more A/A* grades. Ben Hubbert reached the highest grade possible in every single subject, achieving 10 A* GCSE grades as well as a Double Distinction in ICT and grade A in Additional Mathematics.
Other exceptional performances included Madelaine Ager, George Amos, Zoe Cornish, Steven Davies, Calvin Freame, Sophia Gawler, Kristian Goodchild, James Hedge, Freya Hendy, Tai Jarman, Chelsea Jones, Priya Kaur, Laura Phelps, Russell Scudamore, Kate Taylor, Danielle White, and Kate Williams.
Downend students achieved success across a wide range of qualifications. A record number of students achieved the grades they needed to continue with their first choice of subjects at Downend’s Post-16 Centre, with other students following their chosen career path by transferring to college or starting apprenticeships.
