Downend triumph in ESFA final

A TEAM from Downend School are the champions of England after winning their cup final at Reading’s Madejski Stadium.
The Year 8 players ran out 2-0 winners against Caistor Grammar School from Lincolnshire in English Schools’ Football Association Playstation Schools’ Cup.
Downend were cheered loudly by their travelling supporters throughout the game, in which they played with maturity and style. Issac Staples put Downend into the lead with a well taken goal. Although Caistor never gave up and fought back strongly, Dan McBeam settled the match with another superb goal.
Following the presentation of the trophy and individual medals, the squad sat down to a meal in the ‘Players’ Lounge’, wearing commemorative polo shirts provided by the Downend PTA to mark the event.
Deputy head Mark Fuller said: “Both the cup winning squad and the supporters were real ambassadors for Downend and were a credit to themselves and school throughout the day.
“The trophy has been given pride of place in the trophy cabinet in our Main Reception.”
The cup winning squad were: Trent Voyce, Josh Haynes, Ethan Spencer, Dan Ford, Harry Haughton, Issac Staples, Miles Scott, Olly Hanham, Dan Brooks, Dan McBeam, Max Dinall, Tom Smallcoomb, Aaron Hill, Casey Snow, Cam Moore.
The management team comprised Mr Dorman, Mr Beaverstock and Mr Philips.
