Dynamic activities for young people

YOUTH activities are making a big noise at Resound in Mangotsfield, which welcomed the rapper Guvna B for a popular gig last month.
About 200 young people attended the event – staged by Dynamic youth, an initiative led by several churches and youth groups - to see and hear the London-based hip hop artist and MOBO award winner on December 13.
Dynamic, which is open to secondary school aged young people from all backgrounds, launched in October. It is held every two months.
The first event involved about 50 young people, a tuck shop, a Wii, group games, videos, and an interview with a local representative from Christian Aid encouraging young people to make a difference, live music.
There was also a short talk from Resound youth worker Matt Doherty on the theme of ‘raising up a generation of dynamic young people.’
Matt said: “Dynamic s exciting because it’s the joint effort of several different churches who are all equally passionate about young people: giving them social and leadership skills, encouraging them in their faith, and having a laugh along the way.”
Resound has recently started a drop-in youth session on Thursdays, from 3-5pm.
The aim is to provide a relaxed space in which to hang out after school. There’s free toast, games, ping-pong and an opportunity to chat with youth workers. All are welcome. The first one of the New Year will be on January 8.
Plans are also under way to start a youth club at Resound. The first session will be on Monday January 5. The club will run each Monday evening 7-9pm, and will have games, snacks, and provide a great place for young people to relax in a safe and sheltered environment.
Like the drop in, the club is aimed at those aged 11-18, and all are welcome.
Resound is at Blackhorse Road, Mangotsfield.
