Emersons Green Mayor opens new classroom block

Published on: 04 Nov 2015

THE Mayor of Emersons Green Rich Nicholls has opened a new classroom block at Barley Close Primary School in Mangotsfield.
It was a special occasion for Councillor Nicholls, whose three children all attended the school.
He told the 400 pupils and their staff, governors and visitors that it was also the first time he had performed an official opening since he took office as the first mayor of the new Emersons Green Town Council.
The new building includes classrooms for the older children as well as rooms for group work, a cooking area and a library.
It has been funded by South Gloucestershire Council to allow the school to grow to a maximum of 420 children aged four to 11 plus its nursery provision so it can meet demand in the area.
Former staff and governors attended the opening ceremony, which was led by the new head teacher Jo Williams.
