THE Filtones Choir is seeking a new music director to replace Mike Watson, who is bowing out at Christmas after 15 years.

The choir, which meets on Wednesday afternoons at Eden Grove Methodist Church in Horfield, has about 50 members, most of whom are retired people.

It sings four part harmony with a varied repertoire from sacred music and spirituals to Sixties pop. The Filtons perform about 10 concerts a year in the afternoons for pensioners’ clubs and societies. It also has two annual major evening concerts from which members have raised almost £20,000 for charities.

A spokesman said: “ We have two excellent and experienced accompanists who will continue to support the new MD and a strong committee to assist with the admin. and organisation.”

The choir’s Christmas Crackers concert is on Friday December 5 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6.
