Green light for cycle path

WALKERS and cyclists should soon feel much safer after plans to light up the Bristol and Bath cycle path to Siston Hill were approved.
The popular cycle route is only lit until the Bristol and South Gloucestershire border leading to a campaign urging South Gloucestershire Council to install street lights along its part of the path.
Police also urged the authority to consider lights after several criminal incidents along the path.
Now the council has agreed to pay £130,000 towards new lighting which will be switched on from nightfall until midnight.
It is hoped work will start during the summer and be completed before the clocks go back in the autumn.
Last year £50,000 was approved to pay for lights but that would have only funded them up to Staple Hill tunnel.
A further £80,000 has now been agreed at a recent council planning meeting which will mean the lights can be extended to Mangotsfield Station where it will link with existing lighting at Siston Hill railway path.
