Greg and Ciaran set to wow at club night
Published on: 04 Aug 2014
DOWNEND Folk Club is continuing its string of hit gigs by welcoming one of the most highly-rated duos on the UK folk scene as guests at their August club night.
Greg Russell & Ciaran Algar are two-time recipients of prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, scooping the Young Folk Award in 2013, and following that up by walking off with the “Horizion” award, presented to an act who has made a significant breakthrough, earlier this year.
Their new album, The Call, was released last month to critical acclaim.
Downend Folk Club chairman Ant Miles said: “We’ve had some great acts already at Downend Folk Club, but in terms of profile Greg Russell & Ciaran Algar are right up there with Bella Hardy. We’re thrilled to be able to welcome them to the club and we’re truly, truly looking forward to it.
“Greg and Ciaran’s new album has been on repeat since I got it last month! We expect quite a crowd for this one, as they’re well-known on the folk scene, so we’d encourage people to get their tickets soon.”
The pair will play at Frenchay Village Hall on Friday August 15. Doors open at 7.30pm.
Raffle and full bar available, including Great Western Brewing Company real ales and Severn Cider.
Support set from local folk singer Geoff Pugh prior to Greg and Ciaran’s set.
Tickets £8 in advance, from website (no booking fee), or Baguette Me Not in Downend. £10 on the door.
