Impressive season for Mangotsfield Under 14s

YOUNGSTERS from Mangotsfield United Juniors Football Club have been striking the right note with fans after notching up an impressive season.
The club’s U14 team has clinched the top award for their age group by winning the Avon Youth Division 1 Championship title.
Having finished third in the league and winning the Somerset Premier Cup in the 2014/15 season, manager Gary Sloper was determined to make a further improvement in the current season.
He made a few changes to the first team squad in the summer, however the season started slowly as the team managed only one point from their first two games.
Gary said: “I knew we were a good team but we started with no luck and the new team needed to gel.”
Thereafter the side managed to boast an unbeaten league run which lasted into the New Year and the league title was clinched in style after wins against closest rivals Almondsbury Saints and Bristol City Junior Supporters Club.
Gary said: “Aidan Connolly has been in fine form in goal this season, protected by full backs, Ollie Louch and Taylor Andrews and an impressive central defensive unit of Kieran Murray, Ellis Richards and Joel Cassar.
“In midfield, Aaron Jones and Rahel Jafar have covered the flanks well with strength in the middle from Taylor Cepek, Bailey Lacey, Callum Date and Marshall Bamford. In attack, Jaiden Holvor and Bailey Sloper have linked well, with the latter being the top marksman for the team.”
Gary praised his management team of Phil Murray and Gary Jones and his players who have put in so much effort into gaining their first league title.
The celebrations were crowned with a tour to Devon Cliffs at the beginning of May.
Gary said: “It’s been a memorable month; winning the league, having a brilliant tour and many of us are Rovers fans too!”
The club is now looking forward to the team’s presentation night in June when they will be presented with the league trophy and medals.
