Insurance firm marks 50 years in Staple Hill

A FAMILY-RUN insurance business with an office on Staple Hill High Street is celebrating its golden jubilee.
Mark Richard Insurance was established in July 1964 by Bristol-born and bred Dave Wyatt. Originally operating from his front room, he named the company after his two young sons. Having set up an office in Bedminster, he expanded the company for over two decades, establishing popular drop-in shop front offices in other parts of the city. His eldest son, Mark, has run the firm since Dave passed away in 1987.
Mark, 54, says today’s insurance landscape is unrecognisable from when his father set up Mark Richard, but that Staple Hill staff work hard to honour Dave’s founding principle – that every customer should be treated individually and with respect.
“Mark Richard has always prided itself on providing a high quality local service, personalised for people’s needs. It’s what drove the company in its early years, and we work hard to maintain the tradition 50 years on. So although nowadays we deliver services online just as people expect, we’re also available face-to-face for Staple Hill residents or at the end of the phone.
“Over 50 years the business has provided employment livelihoods for scores of local people. It’s remarkable how many of them have stayed with us for such a long time. We have a few staff who joined us straight from school and remain in post now, decades later,” he said.
Mark Richard, based in Staple Hill High Street, also has offices in Bedminster, Warmley and Nailsea.
