DOWNEND Boxing Club and SGS college boxer Jacob Croot, 18, lifted a bronze medal for England at the Three Nations tournament in Rotherham.
Jacob, who is on the college’s Advancec Apprensticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme, was drawn against strong Scot William Stuart.
He made a superb start, taking Stuart by surprise, but faded in the second round before rallying well in the last.
Coach Craig Turner said he was sure further international appearances would follow for Jacob.
“It was very emotional for the travelling Bristol supporters when Jacob came into the ring with the England team and the anthems were played,” he said.
Jacob said: “ It was a wonderful experience being on the training camp and then competing for England.
“I am so proud however, disappointed that I didn’t go further in the competition but next time it will be a different story.”
