GROUPS that use St James Church Hall in Mangotsfield have joined forces to help raise money to pay for repairs to the leaking roof.

Mangotsfield Women’s Institute has led the way, by organising a tabletop sale and community get-together last month.

President Carol Coombs said: “We thought the best way to support the vicar and the church was for all the groups that use the hall to pull together. The church hall is at the heart of the village and the heart of the community. Grandparents, parents and children in Mangotsfield have used it. The WI has been meeting here since 1976.”

The hall is used by more than a dozen groups including a pre-school, senior citizens, Ladies Guild and Mothers’ Union, Guides and Brownies.

The WI also plans to support St James’s Spend a Penny appeal to install toilets at the church by creating a Mangotsfield calendar.
