Lashings v Mangotsfield

CROWDS enjoyed a second chance to see The Lashings All Stars when they visited Pomphrey Hill to take on a Mangotsfield Junior Football Club Invitation XI.
The match was to raise funds for the football club, which will be running around 40 boys and girls sides from under-5s through to under-16s for the new season.
The Lashings, who had played Downend Cricket Club a month earlier, won by 103 runs.
Former Sussex captain Alan Wells, who made one Test appearance for England, top scored with an unbeaten 97. Lashings also gave a debut to Somerset’s England international Nick Compton (63) in a total of 281-4.
The Mangotsfield FC Invitation team replied with an all out total of 178, Thornbury captain Richard Trotman top scoring with 54 while there were also useful innings from Bedminster all-rounder James Carter (28) and Bishopston’s Mark Coombes (27), with Compton claiming 3-33.
