Let's all play our part for our parks
Published on: 28 Oct 2016
THE Voice team had a fantastic time last month taking part in The Colour Fun Run at Oldbury Court.
Some of us moved rather faster than others but we all reminded ourselves of just how lucky we are to have this fantastic facility on our doorstep.
We've spent many happy days at events in Page Park too; it's another gem in our neighbourhood.
There are many smaller parks around our community too, and as Government funding continues to be pared down, it is increasingly up to volunteers to help preserve these green spaces and seek out funding for improvements to equipment.
We've reported many times on the brilliant efforts of the Friends of Page Park, who have finally secured the finance they deserve to carry out the refurbishments they dream of.
Wouldn't it be great if we could build similarly thriving Friends groups for Oldbury Court (OK, it's not in South Glos but hundreds from our district use it) and for Bromley Heath?
It's true that a lot of us are time-poor, but many are not, and the amazing Downend and Bromley Heath in Bloom group are testament to the enjoyment that can be gained from getting involved in improving outdoor spaces in our community. And what's more, you could get your photo in Downend Voice!
We love to share news of positive activities in our area. Give us a call or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org Send us your pictures too.
