Life begins at 65

A FREE event aimed at encouraging people to make the most of their later years will take place at Emersons Green this week.
It will be an opportunity for older people, as well as their family and friends, to find out about what services are on offer to help those over the age of 65 to stay safe, secure, healthy and independent in their own homes.
Organised by Bluebird Care (South Gloucestershire), the event will feature stalls and displays from a number of organisations, all of whom support older people.
Managing director, Sophie Rowland-Jones, said: “The over 65 year olds play an important part in our society. Not only have they contributed in previous years to the development of civic life, but they also add greatly to the economy, and give hundreds of hours of voluntary time to community groups. We rely heavily on older people for all they do, not to mention the support they give by helping out with grandchildren.”
The event will include stalls from Contact the Elderly, Age UK, Singing for the Brain, Remap, Care Planning Services, Well Aware and Wessex Financial Solutions, the Alzheimer’s Society, Avon and Somerset Police and Zoolab.
The event takes place at Emersons Green Village Hall on Thursday September 4 from 10am -12.30 pm.
