Local girls are world champions

TWO 12-year-olds from the Downend area have returned triumphant from the United States after the cheerleading world championships.
Lacey Sheldon, from Downend, and Kasia McNally, from Kingswood, are members of the Crimson Heat Tigers, who beat teams from all over the world, including the US, to become world champions.
The team of 25 girls, aged nine to 15, is the first non-American team to win the Summit world title.
Lacey’s mum Rachel said the girls boarded the plane to Orlando hoping simply to qualify for the finals day.
“To actually win, beating the Americans at their own game, was surreal, especially given the quality of the opposition,” she said.
Lacey, a student at Mangotsfield School, and Kasia, who goes to St Gregory’s in Bath, have been cheerleading for five years. This is their first season with the Crimson Heat Tigers, who train in Reading.
