STUDENTS from Mangotsfield School and Downend School were among the award winners at an event held to celebrate the educational achievements of young people in South Gloucestershire.
The 2014 Student Achievement Awards were held at Filton BAWA. Chairman of South Gloucestershire Council Councillor Ian Boulton joined guest Tom Robson from Tom Robson Education (TREDU), and Councillor Ian Blair, chairman of the children and young people committee, to help present certificates to more than 200 students.
Tom Robson has a passion for science and has taught all over the world. He gave the young people an insight into his inspirational global teaching career, working in China, Thailand and the United States.
Students were singled out for praise in a range of categories, including key stage 3, GCSE and post-16 results for highest performing students and for those making the most progress in their studies.
Councillor Blair said: “We are committed to driving up the quality of teaching and learning for young people in our schools. Equipping our secondary school students with the right skills they will need when they leave school and make the transition to the workplace remains a key priority for South Gloucestershire Council.
The Student Achievement Awards provide an opportunity to congratulate young people on their achievements to date and I wish them every success for the future.”
