Look out for the chainsaw gang

ANOTHER Downend Connect initiative to provide a social activity for retired men is set to launch soon.
Parish councillor Martyn Poole is spearheading a group called Man and His Tools, at which participants can take part in carpentry and similar activities.
He has recruited some expert volunteers and has had the offer of a supply of wood, so once a container and some suitable tools are sorted, there will be no

 stopping them.
The group will create planters for the Downend and Bromley Heath in Bloom group while learning useful skills and enjoying company.
“I think it is a very exciting prospect,” said Mr Poole. “There are lots of social groups for women but not so many for men. This will give them an interest and it won’t matter if they don’t have practical experience as we will have carpenters and kitchen fitters who can advise and help them.”
The idea comes from a similar project in Patchway called Men in Sheds.
