Mangos exit FA Cup after defeat

MANGOTSFIELD United’s dream of FA Cup glory is over for another season.
Dave Mehew’s side went out of the Emirates FA Cup in the first preliminary round on August 20 with a 2-0 defeat at AFC Portchester.
Their opponents are managed by Graham Rix, who won the FA Cup with Arsenal in 1979.
The defeat was a blow after a good start in the league. The team won three of their first four matches in what is Mangotsfield’s 65th season.
Their only defeat wasaway to promotion favourites Hereford, where they lost 3-2. The Hereford match attracted a crowd of 2,593, which is believed to be the biggest crown the team have played in front of.
The Mangos had an excellent 2-0 away win at Winchester City and also won their first two home matches against Bideford and North Leigh.
On Bank Holiday Monday they entertain local rivals Yate Town. Home fixtures in September are on the 17th against Slimbridge, and the 27th against Barnstaple Town.
Paulton Rovers are the visitors on October 1.
On the social club side, winter skittles starts soon and both alleys are fully booked. If you are interested in booking a party etc, the diary is filling up fast, so please ring the clubhouse on 0117 9560119 sooner rather than later.
