Oyez! Coming of age for Mangotsfield Festival

ORGANISERS are gearing up for Mangotsfield Festival, which celebrates its 21st birthday this year.

The free community event on June 8 is run by a team of volunteers and brings together groups, organisations, churches, families and individuals from Mangotsfield and Emersons Green and around the surrounding area.

The fun begins with a parade from the green outside the Lamb pub up to Cleve Rugby Club, where activities continue throughout the day and evening.

The festival is a showcase for music, song and and dance. The headline act this year is Vehicle, a nine-piece Bristol band. A town crier competition featuring criers from across the country will be held, organised by Mangotsfield town crier Madeleine Bills.

Stalls, handicrafts and displays will have plenty to offer and the event will end with a firework display at 10pm

Any money raised by the festival is given back to the local community through grants. This year the festival committee has given out three grants to local organisations - Downend Camera Club to help buy equipment, 2nd Mangotsfield Rainbows, Brownies and Guides and the Phoenix Allstars Cheerleaders, based at Mangotsfield School, to help buy uniforms.
