Mangotsfield School pupils learn about World of Work

REPRESENTATIVES from more than 20 businesses took part in a World of Work day at Mangotsfield School.
The event was aimed mainly at Year 8 students, who are about to choose the subjects they will study for the next three years. The idea was to help them understand how their curriculum options might fit into future career pathways.
The students had the chance to talk to a range of employers and ask about their businesses. They also took part in taster sessions for new subjects such as psychology, media and photography. Head teacher David Spence said the day was a massive opportunity for the young people, aged 12 and 13 and he urged them to approach it with an open mind.
Businesses and organisations taking part included Airbus, Bristol Rovers, the RAF and Westbury Care.
Mangotsfield School is building up its employer engagement programme for students of all ages through its Premium Partner network, which it has launched jointly with Downend School.
Lara Loomes, the scheme's co-ordinator, is keen to hear from any employer or business owner who would like to get involved with the programme. She is particularly keen to hear from people working in the hair and beauty industry locally. Contact her on 01454 862300 or via email at L.Loomes@downend.com
