SCOUTS in Mangotsfield have been given a £600 donation to mark their 60th anniversary.
The money was handed over to 67th Kingswood 1st Mangotsfield Scout Group by the Lydda Lodge at Downend Masonic Hall.
Mangotsfield Explorer Scout Leader Sarah Elliott accepted the cheque from the masonic charitable fund on behalf of the scout group, which comprises beavers, cubs, scouts and explorer scouts.
She said the money would go towards a fund to extend the scout hall in Mangotsfield.
This donation was made from a fund set up to celebrate the tercentenary of freemasonry. Seven lodges meet at the Masonic Hall in Stapleton and eleven at Downend.
Local MP Jack Lopresti, who attended the presentation, said:“I applaud the work that Lydda Lodge, as well as the other lodges based at Downend Masonic Hall, do for their community helping local groups thrive and look forward to seeing how this donation benefits Mangotsfield Scouts.”
Mr Lopresti said Bristol Masonic Charities had recently given £700 to his fundraising efforts for CLIC Sargent, helping the fight against teenage cancer.
