Memories from Mangotsfield Primary School

Published on: 28 May 2016

TWO of those who took advantage of the chance for a last look at the old Mangotsfield Primary have shared photos of their school days.
Mike Bendrey has supplied a picture of his class of 1949-50, taken outside the building. The teacher was Mrs Jones.
Carol Lucas loaned a photo from 1958, and has an impressive recall of the names of those pictured.
The report in our May issue also stirred memories for Dave Croome, who wrote:
“I attended this school from 1953-58.The teachers I can remember were Mr and Mrs Gill, Mr Higgins, Miss Mills, Mr Williamson, not forgetting the Headmaster, Mr Farmiloe. Canteen ladies were Mrs Skuse, Mrs Bailey, Mrs Jeffries.
At Christmas we received a small parcel of chocolates from Carsons. My last year at this school  Mr Williamson was my teacher. What a gentleman.”
The Victorian school is no longer needed and is set to be sold by South Gloucestershire Council. Campaigners who wanted to retain it for community use were told it would be too expensive to restore the building.
