National final for Downend School

A DOWNEND School football team are through to the national final of the English Schools FA Cup.

The Under 13 boys beat St Gregory’s Middle School, Bedford in the semi-finals of the Small Schools Trophy, a competition that began with 132 teams.

Downend were allowed to compete because of the small size of their year group.

In the semi-final match , played at Keynsham Town’s ground, the boys won 4-1, with Dan Brooks scoring a hat trick.

The squad was Trent Voyce, Ethan Spencer, Josh Haynes, Dan Ford, Harry Haughton, Max Dinall, Olly Hanham, Issac Staples, Dan McBeam, Dan Brooks, Miles Scott, Aaron Hill, Tom Smallcombe, Casey Snow, Cam Moore.

Head teacher William Roberts wished the team good luck for the final this month and said: “The boys have represented the school superbly and have displayed a great team spirit to achieve all they have so far this season.”
