New Post Office opens in Mangotsfield

A NEW Post Office in the heart of Mangotsfield has been unveiled.
Services moved to the convenience store in Northcote Road following the closure of the Post Office branch in Cossham Street on December 11.
It now means services will be available seven days a week from 6am to 9pm and will mark the end of lunchtime closing and early closing on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
This amounts to an extra 67.5 hours a week that customers will be able to access services.
Long-serving postmaster Paresh Shah has retired from the Cossham Street branch but will initially assist the new postmaster, Harsimran Kaur at Northcote Road.
The new service is provided at two modern open-plan combination counters alongside the retail tills instead of full screened, separate counters.
The whole of the store has refurbished and is now a Spar convenience store.
Will Russell, Post Office regional manager said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.
“We are confident this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the community will be popular. The modernisation is part of a major Government investment programme enabling us to continue investing in the Post Office network and to map out a bold growth strategy to the end of the decade.”
The building now boasts a side ramp with handrails, making access easier for the disabled, the elderly and parents with buggies.
Mangotsfield Post Office had previously opened Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 1pm and 2 to 5.30pm. It also opened half days on Wednesday from 9am to 1pm and Saturday from 9am to 2.30pm.
