New signings give Mangos’ hopes for 2014/15 a boost

MANGOTSFIELD United players returned to training last week and are getting set for the 2014-15 season in the Southern League Division One South & West.

Manager Richard Thomson has a new assistant, former Bristol Rovers midfielder David Mehew, affectionately known as Boris.

Thompson said of Mehew, who was most recently manager of Conference North side Gloucester City: “We have always had a great relationship over the years and I am really looking forward to working with him.”

Thompson has strengthened his squad by signing attacking midfielder Steve Davies from Cirencester Town.

He has also brought Ryan Bath back to Cossham Street, and got Josh Dempsey and Ross McNab on the books.

Geraint Bater has joined the Mangos for pre-season training with a view to signing.

Thompson hopes to make more signings before the start of the campaign to make up for the loss of Toby Osman to Chippenham Town and Matt Sysum and Kevin Sawyer to Evesham United.

Players retained from last season are: Neil Arndale, Alex Kite, Shaun Lamb, Josh Egan, Ashley Williams, Lewis Powell, Ibs Diallo, Tom Parrinello, Reeko Best, Aron Robbins and Darren Edwards

The club has announced a home pre-season friendly against a Bristol Rovers XI on Wednesday July 23. Kick off is 7.45pm. Admission will be £5 and £3 concessions.
