Parkrun is launched at Pomphrey play fields
Published on: 03 Mar 2014
RUNNING fans in Mangotsfield, Downend and Emersons Green have their own weekly parkrun from this month.
The 5K run takes place at Pomphrey Hill Playing Fields every Saturday at 9am.
Everyone can take part and it's free – but you must register online first.
The run is for fun and enjoyment but is timed so runners can test themselves against the clock.
It's fine to take part with a buggy or with a dog as long as you show consideration for other runners.
The course is three clockwise laps of the playing fields, starting approximately 100m beyond the pavilion and finishing just before the car park. It’s largely flat and run on gravel or tarmac paths, but with an uphill section of bark-chipped footpath (nicknamed ‘Up Pomphrey’) leading to a stretch on grass, before rejoining a tarmac path leading downhill to complete the lap. It has been accurately measured.
Parkruns are organised by volunteers. If you'd like to join them, email firstname.lastname@example.org
The first South Gloucestershire parkrun in Little Stoke attracts 200 runners a week. A parkrun is now also being established in Chipping Sodbury.
South Gloucestershire Council has won a Run England ‘Project of the Year’ award for the South West in recognition of its work with volunteers to establish running groups.
