Pop stars party boosts Jack’s Fund

THERE’S simply no stopping supporters of a Downend charity, who certainly know how to put the fun into fund-raising.
Paula Banks, who started collecting for Bristol Children’s Hospital following the death of her nine-year-old son Jack in 2008, thought this year’s annual fancy dress party for Jack’s Fund might be the last.
But so many of the 80 people who turned out for the pop star themed event have asked when the next one will be that Paula has already had to book the Pomphrey Hill Pavilion in Mangotsfield for 2015.
“It’s on October 30, so no surprises what the theme will be. Our Jack loved Halloween,” said Paula.
“This year’s party was a great success and, as always, the outfits were absolutely brilliant. Total raised on the night was £850.”
Jack’s Star Tribute Fund is part of the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal for Bristol Children’s Hospital. Paula and family set themselves the target of reaching £100,000 to fund a conservatory and playroom at the hospital as part of an expansion programme – and they have already raised £96,700.
Ark Data Centres collected £5,040 with a cycling challenge while Paula’s colleagues at Osborne Clark have raised more than £10,000 in six months and her friend Tori completed the Bristol Half Marathon, bringing in £550. Downend WI have also been supporting the fund this year and are due to hand over a cheque this month.
