PEOPLE who enjoy using Barley Close field are being urged to contribute to a public consultation over its future.
South Gloucestershire Council is proposing to stop maintaining the field – as well as eight other sites – from April next year to save money.
It wants local groups to take on responsibility for maintaining the playing fields and pitches.
But Rodway councillor Michael Bell is concerned that no organisation will want to assume responsibility for the Barley Close field, as it not used regularly by sports teams although it is popular as an open space for picnics, dog walking and as a short cut to school.
He appealed to any organisation that might be interested in cutting the grass at the field – also known as Windsor Place - to get in touch.
“It is vitally important for the community that we retain this area for well-maintained recreational purposes,” he said.
The council has not yet made a final decision and people can make their comments via the council website. Councillor Bell said any residents who wished to have a say but did not have access to a computer to contact him on 07875 631817.
