Pupils embrace Steampunk

DOWNEND School embraced the world of Steampunk when students took part in the annual Big Draw event.
Steampunk is genre of science fantasy involving technologu and designs inspired by Victorian steam-powered machinery.
For the school, it was an opportunity to incorporate elements of science, technology, engineering, art and maths - the STEAM subjects.
Children from local primary schools also took part in the project, which included activities such as creating an invention from up-cycled materials, stop motion animation workshops, steampunk themed dress up photo-booth and portraiture, and brooch making workshops.
As always, there was the literal big draw too, covering the Innovation Centre floor with recycled paper and allowing everyone to express themselves.
