Rain or shine — we love Page Park

New date for fun day after storms strike
PAGE Park has been bathed in sunshine on so many days this summer - but sadly not on the morning its supporters were due to celebrate.
Massive storms overnight on July 18/19 meant that organisers had to take the tough decision to cancel the Love Page Park event because of the sodden state of the grass.
But park-lovers will be glad to know the festivities have now been rescheduled for September 6.
One of the organisers, Charlotte Challis, explained that the thunder and lightning and the heavy rain had left them with no choice but to cancel last month,
“The risk to the public and stallholders was far too great. The worst thing to do in a lightning storm is stand in a field and wave around a metal (gazebo) pole. We were also concerned about risk to the park, the grass was likely to get very badly churned and as the Friends of Page Park, we have to make sure we are protecting the park, not damaging it,” she said.
She added that the feedback from everyone; stallholders, exhibitors, performers and the public has been overwhelmingly supportive.
The Friends hope the rearranged event will have all the same activities as originally: free tennis lessons, microchipping for dogs, and free crafts, music and entertainment - but no weather dramas.
