THE main stand at Mangotsfield United’s ground has been renamed in honour of former manager and chairman Ralph Miller.
A ‘legends’ match took place at the Glass Consultants UK stadium in Cossham Street to mark the occasing and former chairman Sid Packer, who brought Ralph Miller to the club, gave a fitting tribute during a speech which included anecdotes of Ralph’s time as manager.
After the ceremony, Ralph’s son Dave said “When I was told some months ago that this was going to happen I thought it was a great gesture, and now that the family are here we all feel overwhelmed by the whole event and very emotional.
“On behalf of the Miller family I’d very much like to thank both Mangotsfield United and Cadbury Heath for celebrating the memory of Ralph.”
The outcome of the ‘legends’ match was a 3-1 win for Mangotsfield United with goals coming from Eion Bailey, Danny Thorpe and Adam Sims with Dave Scutt getting on the score sheet for Cadbury Heath.
The team managers were Nicky Tanner and Brian Knighton and the match officials were Bob Boyd, Robert Boyd and Brad Maynard.
