SIR Bernard Lovell Academy is named after the physicist Sir Bernard Lovell, whose achievements in designing the space telescope at Jodrell Bank were made possible through ambition and positive endeavour.
The school aims to follow his example as it builds a learning environment that can equip students well for life in the 21st century.
SBL aims to give every individual the chance to achieve beyond their dreams – at Sir Bernard Lovell Academy, the possibilities are infinite.
Its students are playing a major part in shaping the academy’s future. They recently engaged in a project to identify the school’s values - respect, equality, knowledge, individuality and teamwork. These are now at the heart of all that the school does.
Principal Rupert Maule said, “We want our students to achieve the best possible qualifications, because we recognise that this will open many doors for them. We also know they need to develop personal qualities so they can make the most of these opportunities.”
School staff are dedicated to providing a happy and supportive learning environment, high quality teaching and a rich curriculum.
This is backed up by a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. Performing arts, sports and outdoor pursuits are particularly strong at SBL.
